Welcome to GROUND-MED project

Within the framework of this demonstration project eight ground source heat pump plants shall be built and monitored, aimed at verifying sustainability of heat pump technology for heating and cooling of buildings in Mediterranean climate.

Please note: This project was completed on 31 December 2014.

Thermal heat from pit water

Jun. 16, 2014 – The coal mining company RAG, Germany annually pumps over 100 million cubic metres of water to the surface from a depth of up to 1,000 m to secure the stability of the ground and the safety of drinking water in former mining regions. For one year now, the municipal utility of Bochum has been heating several public buildings with that pit water. The pilot project demonstrates how to use old mines for an eco-friendly heat supply of surrounding buildings. » read more

Heat pumps: best-in-class technology for heating & cooling

Jan. 20, 2014 – The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) invites interested experts to its event “Heat pumps: best-in-class technology for heating and cooling”, taking place on 19 February, 2014. This event will focus on the impact of the Ecodesign Directive on heat pumps in light of its recent adoption (09/2013). It will be organised in conjunction with the Conference on Product Policy – International Trends in Ecodesign & Energy Labelling (20-21/02/2014). Speakers – different heat pump stakeholders and EU officials – will cover topics such as the manufacturer perspective for different market segments, the quality label and the impact of the EU legislation on consumers’ purchasing decisions.  » read more

The GROUND-MED public forum is primarily aimed at providing a discussion platform for key actors from the ground source heat pump community. Architects, planners, drillers, installers as well as heat pump manufacturers and suppliers are invited to discuss topics of interest among themselves and with the project partners.
