Semmozhiyaana Tamizh Mozhiyaam ( செà®®்à®®ொà®´ியான தமிà®´் à®®ொà®´ியே ) is a Tamil song composed by A. R. Rahman, penned by Tamil Nadu CM Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi and sung by almost 70 Tamil artistes of over three generations. It is officially the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 ( உலகத் தமிà®´்ச் செà®®்à®®ொà®´ி à®®ாநாடு) ), to be held in Coimbatore in June 2010, encapsulating the contributions of Tamil culture and literature down the ages. The song, a tribute to the Tamil language, features a fusion of various musical styles, including Carnatic, Folk, Acoustic, Sufi, Rock and Rap. The video directed by Gautham Menon showcases the evolution of the Tamil script over time as well as aspects of Tamil culture, Tamil education, and the aesthetic beauty of Tamil locales.

Do you know Tamil language is called as Semmozhi. Wonder why so?

It's because tamil is a live and vibrant language inspite of being a contemporary of some of the dormant languages of yester millennium. Tamil language also did not simply assimilate with sanskrut culture but has really contributed to sanskrut and many of the sanskrut vocabulary has the root deivative of tamil root words

Tamil is not solely dependent on sanskrut like other indian or satem languages but still remains the only indian language which can stand alone with its rich and evolutionary vocabulary. The classic or semmozhi nature of a language does not simply depend on a present citeria but how it will sustain itself in its posterity - how it will be conserved/protected/evolved with ever changing days to come

These are the criteria for a language need to be met to eligible called as 'Semmozhi'
  • It should have been born atleast 2000 years ago. It should have literary continuity for 2000 years. And is still existing.
  • It should have given birth to other languages.
  • It should have helped the world improving in Culture.
  • The world has only five languages which have the 'Semmozhi' status. Tamilzh is one amongst them.
Hope, by knowing all the facts, perhaps you will feel proud to speak some good tamil now.
