About

Fred Parry was born in Glasgow and studied cello at the R.S.A.M.D.under the guidance of Audrey Scott and Joan Dickson.

He has been a freelance cellist and teacher in Scotland for over 40 years. Throughout his playing career he has always taught cello.

He was a founder member of Bellarmine Arts Centre, Music Co-Ordinator at the Strathclyde Arts Centre as well as being the cello tutor for the Glasgow Schools Symphony Orchestra. Four years ago he organised and conducted Glasgow’s Schools first Cello Orchestra where they had a very successful debut with the eminent cellist Julian Lloyd Webber.

He now conducts/coaches a number of Cello Ensemble groups throughout the year. He also conducts/coaches young string groups such as the Glasgow Schools String Orchestra, Junior String Orchestra of NYSOS.

Playing

He plays on a Fridolin Rusch Cello and uses Pirastro Obligato strings on G & C and the new Pirastro Passione on A&D

Teaching

He has been teaching the cello for over 30 Years. To him it is one of the most important parts of being a professional cellist. Learning new ways to teach amd explain difficulties is also a way to improves one's own playing.

Fred welcomes absolute beginners through to highly advanced students, regardless of age. He is also teaching online now using Zoom, Skype, FaceTime and Google Duo

Fees

Fees vary depending on lesson length. Please call or email me for a quote.

Times

"Evenings, or weekends are best. I recommend a regular weekly lesson, however this doesn't always suit some people (particularly adult students).I am happy to provide fortnightly lessons, or to schedule lessons on a week-by-week basis for those who require it."... Fred
