Statue by Auguste Rodin opened in Yerevan, Armenia
Festive spirit reigns at the French Square in Yerevan. Hundreds of people, children and pupils are gathered here with balloons, Armenian and French flags in their hands.
At the French Square in Yerevan was solemnly opened Jules Bastien-Lepage statue by Auguste Rodin, which is the gift of the French Republic to Armenia.
At the event were present the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and French President Nicola Sarkozy. They also made a speech. There were a lot of guests present at the event from Armenia and France, the famous Armenian – French chansonnier Charles Aznavour was also present there.
At the end of his speech N. Sarcozy pronounced in Armenian “Viva Armenia, Viva France” which was greeted with thunderous applause.
The next surprise of Sarkozy was pronouncing the word Genocide in Armenian (“Tseghaspanutyun”). He stressed one more time that the events of 1915 are to be called “Tseghaspanutyun”.
After the solemn ceremony the heads of the two countries approached the civilians and shook hands with many people present there.
