Fraxel Laser Treatment/Fraxel Laser Resurfacing

Fraxel laser is a safe, non-invasive laser skin treatment which is based on FDA-approved fractional laser technology to restore your skin to its original texture: smoother, fresher, younger looking with improved tone. It erases unwanted brown spots, acne and surgical scars, smooths out fine lines/wrinkles, reduces large pores and skin discolouration. Fraxel Treatments can be administered on any part of the body, and is not limited to the face. Delicate skin suffering from damage due to sun exposure on the neck or chest, and stretch marks can be easily treated. This type of selective treatment causes collagen (the protein that provides both structure and support to the skin) to regenerate while not affecting the remainder of the skin’s surface.

The Procedure

A typical Fraxel laser skin treatment/resurfacing is performed in a single session, following a consultation with a doctor/nurse. The skin is cleansed and then a solution is applied to the treatment area. Local anaesthesia is applied to increase patient comfort during the procedure, before the Laser is passed over the surface of the desired area(s).

The technology behind Fraxel laser is as revolutionary as the results it delivers. Unlike other laser treatments, Fraxel skin resurfacing treatments deliver energy deep into the dermis (deepest layer of skin) in thousands of small dots, by using pinpoint laser beams, with the surrounding areas unaffected . These unaffected areas help speed up the healing process while the treated areas promote skin rejuvenation. Thus by stimulating the body’s own healing process it replaces damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthier skin.

Advantages of Fraxel Laser Treatment over traditional methods

The fundamental difference between a Fraxel Laser Skin Treatment and the more traditional ablative methods is that Fraxel does not affect all of the skin at once. Instead of a blanket surface treatment, affecting the entire skin surface in conventional laser procedures, Fraxel treats pinpoint areas on the skin, penetrating small fractions, just deep enough to stimulate significant collagen regeneration. These microscopic treated areas begin to regenerate collagen and the surrounding non-affected areas help to speed up the body’s natural recovery process.

Downtime & Recovery

Fraxel Laser treatments are safe and very effective, with minimal risk and downtime. Usually two to three days, so Friday is an ideal time to have this treatment so you can be back to work by Monday. It is advisable to limit the sun exposure for some weeks after treatment.

Risks and Complications

There is a little discomfort associated with the treatment. Most patients report a mild prickly sensation during treatment that stops as soon as the treatment session is complete.

The Fraxel Results

The results are immediate and progressive.  After the treatment, you can expect smoother, fresher, softer skin; minimised pores and less skin discolouration. After 2-4 months post-treatment, you can see further improvement as the deeper layers of the skin continue to create new collagen. A typical Fraxel treatment course involves between 2-8 treatments, spaced 1-4 weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on the individual patient and the condition/reason for undergoing treatment. Generally, results are long lasting depending on your age, lifestyle, skin condition and skin regimen.

We have clinics in London, Sunderland and Newcastle. Sunderland is popular for our non-surgical treatments and all surgical treatments are carried out at our Newcastle and London clinic.
